KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry will control the promotion and marketing of fast food services in the country to educate the people of healthy diets, the Dewan Negara heard today.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said among steps taken was to tighten the control on promotion and advertisement of fast food on TV stations and increasing programmes involving healthy diets on radio, TV, newspapers and magazines.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Earth's various ecosystems, with all their plants and animals, will need to shift about a quarter-mile (.42 km) per year on average to keep pace with global climate change, scientists said in a study released on Wednesday.

How well particular species can survive rising worldwide temperatures attributed to excess levels of heat-trapping "greenhouse" gases emitted by human activity hinges on those species' ability to migrate or adapt in place.

PUTRAJAYA: The Government will introduce a raft of measures to curb profiteering once the goods and services tax (GST) is implemented in mid-2011, said Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah.

He said the framework to monitor price movements would be similar to the 143 other countries that had implemented the GST or value-added tax since 1948.

Is it really surprising that only 16 out of 100 consumers use Public Transport in the Klang Valley? The often repeated reasons are just too many and has been going on for too long: long unpredictable waits, frequent unwanted stops, discomfort and lack of safety, unavailable information on routes, different payment structures, poor pedestrian friendly infrastructure and lack of park and ride facilities.

MALAYSIAN consumers should support the implementation of the goods and services tax (GST) for four reasons.

First, the country's tax structure depends too heavily on petroleum revenue. Petroleum is a non-renewable resource.

Second, amid the current economic downturn, the deficit is increasing. Malaysia is expecting a budget deficit of 7.6 per cent for this year.
