CONSUMERS must be always on their guard -- and alert too -- when shopping. It pays.

Some days ago while shopping at a personal care store, I picked up a 250g tube of toothpaste, labelled at RM5.40, and asked the counter clerk to pack it up for me. After a little check, he told me it now cost RM8.80. I was taken aback and pointed at the label (RM5.40).

The clerk argued that RM5.40 was the price the previous day.

I refused to buy. I called the customer care line of the store, and informed them of what happened. They checked, apologised and said I could still buy it at RM5.40.

So consumers should be careful when buying as sometimes stores can make, and have made, mistakes when selling goods. Exercise your rights when buying. And avoid getting cheated.
