KOTA BARU: Three cases of food poisoning involving 127 trainees have been reported at the national service training camp in Cancun Park, Pasir Mas, in the past two months.

In the latest incident on Tuesday, about 100 trainees came down with food poisoning after they were believed to have consumed contaminated food.

State Health Department deputy director Dr Wan Mansor Hamzah said that of the 100 students, 15 were sent to the three hospitals in the state.

The NS trainees could have eaten contaminated fried rice and chicken supplied by another contractor appointed by the food caterer, Dr Wan Mansor told newsmen at the Pasir Mas Hospital after inspecting the camp.

Meanwhile, National Service Training Department director-general Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil said all 15 trainees were discharged from hospital on Tuesday night and that there was no new case since.

On May 12, 10 trainees from the same training centre complained of food poisoning due to poor food handling hygiene, he added.

On April 14, 17 participants fell sick after they consumed expired food leading the health department to close the canteen and discontinue the services of a food caterer.
