“SIX die in dawn crash” (The Star, AprIL 14) is indeed heart breaking news. The tragic accident ought to be investigated thoroughly by the authorities.

According to some of the passengers who escaped with minor injuries, the driver was not speeding at the time of the accident. Apparently the driver’s inability to control the vehicle after overtaking another bus was said to have brought about the horrifying fatal crash.

KUALA LUMPUR : Asia’s youth spend nine and a half hours each day consuming some form of media.  Listening to music is very important to the lives of two thirds of young Asians and 34% said that they had spent more time listening to music in the last year.

The fourth annual Synovate Young Asians study looks at what's in the hearts and minds of the region's youth, revealing their media consumption, purchase habits, attitudes, favourite singers and cartoons.  It covers 12 markets across Asia, including Japan and Vietnam for the first time.

Massive emissions cuts can save Arctic ice: study PDF Print E-mail

Cutting greenhouse gases by 70 percent this century would spare the planet the most traumatic effects of climate change, including the massive loss of Arctic sea ice, a study said Tuesday.

The cuts would also prevent huge losses of permafrost and a significant rise in the sea level, said the study to be published next week in Geophysical Research Letters.

"This research indicates that we can no longer avoid significant warming during this century," said Washington, who ran a series of global supercomputer studies.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry will continue advertising shocking photographs in local dailies as part of its anti-smoking campaign despite some negative feedback.

The ministry has even successfully enlisted the cooperation of tobacco companies to print these pictures on cigarette packs, said minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

KUALA LUMPUR (April 12, 2009) : A return to simple things and less dependency on subsidies are some of the ways to beat the economic downturn, says a consumer researcher.

 Speaking at a forum on the global financial crisis in Malaysia last week, Consumer Research and Resource Centre CEO Paul Selva Raj (pix) noted that resources such as oil, natural gas, topsoil, fresh water and forests are non-renewable and will someday be depleted.
