I REFER to the recent discussion between three ministries and the bus and taxi operators. According to the reports, bus fares will see an increase soon because the last one was four years ago. And in that time, petrol and diesel prices have increased and so have many of the parts and operations costs. Of course, petrol and diesel prices have gone down in recent months but that does not seem to have made a difference to the bus operators in their request for a 100 per cent increase in fares. |

CONSUMERS must be always on their guard -- and alert too -- when shopping. It pays. Some days ago while shopping at a personal care store, I picked up a 250g tube of toothpaste, labelled at RM5.40, and asked the counter clerk to pack it up for me. After a little check, he told me it now cost RM8.80. I was taken aback and pointed at the label (RM5.40). |

Wednesday May 20, 2009 WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Global warming's effects this century could be twice as extreme as estimated just six years ago, scientists reported on Tuesday. Earth's median surface temperature could rise 9.3 degrees F (5.2 degrees C) by 2100, the scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology found, compared to a 2003 study that projected a median temperature increase of 4.3 degrees F (2.4 degrees C). |
