Should drivers renew licence once in 5 years? |

KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry will study the existing practice of allowing drivers to renew their licence once in every five years, said the minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.
He said the drivers involved in accidents would not be easy to detect they went to renew their licence. “This is the loophole in law enforcement we must study thoroughly. We want to know how many of them really pay their fines and what is the general attitude of the people when they are served with summonses,” he said after launching the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) Malaysia Report at Hilton Hotel here Tuesday. |

 A new international survey from Consumers International (CI) shows how McDonald’s, Burger King and KFC are still marketing meals with high levels of fat, sugar and salt to children. Despite reformulating their products to reduce levels of fat, sugar and salt and offering ‘healthier’ options in some outlets, several fast food children’s meals were still found to contain more than 50% of a child’s guideline daily amount. For children between four and six years old some levels could reach 70% of the guideline daily amount. |

Half of the world population owns a mobile phone, said research firm Synovate. According to its September newsletter In:fact, it was estimated that one in every two persons had a cellphone as at February 2008. By the end of next year, that number will increase to 70%, predicts Wireless Intelligence, a mobile market research firm. Not only do we own mobiles, we are hopelessly attached to it. A survey by Synovate spanning 11 markets and over 8,000 mobile phone owners found that 75% of their respondents never leave home without their phones. |
